WhatsApp Marketing Privacy Notice
This notice explains how Megan Cee, trading as New World (“New World”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you subscribe to receive marketing communications from us via WhatsApp. It is issued in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) and the Information Regulator’s Guidance Note on Direct Marketing (3 December 2024).

New World is the responsible party, as defined by POPIA, for the personal information described in this notice.

2. What information we collect
When you subscribe to WhatsApp marketing from us, whether on our website, through our social media pages, or in-store, we collect:
- Your full name
- Your WhatsApp mobile number
- Your email address, if you choose to provide it
- The date and time you gave consent
- The channel through which you subscribed (website, social media, or in-store)
3. Why we collect it
We use this information for one purpose only: to send you direct marketing communications via WhatsApp. This may include promotional offers, new product announcements, in-store specials, competitions, and loyalty programme updates relating to New World products and services.
We will not use your WhatsApp number for any purpose beyond this without first asking for your fresh, separate consent.
4. Our legal basis for processing your information
We rely on your freely given, specific, and informed consent, as required by section 69 of POPIA and Regulation 6 of the POPIA Regulations (Form 4). Subscribing to WhatsApp marketing is entirely optional. Declining to subscribe will never affect your ability to shop with us or use any New World service.
5. How we communicate with you
Messages are sent through the WhatsApp Business platform. Every message will clearly identify New World as the sender and will include a simple way to opt out.
6. Who we share your information with
We share your WhatsApp number with our WhatsApp Business Solution Provider, who operates the messaging platform on our behalf, solely so that messages can be delivered to you. This operator is contractually required to process your information only on our instructions and in line with POPIA. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise trade your personal information to third parties.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your information for as long as your consent remains active. If you withdraw consent, we will remove your number from our active marketing list within 7 business days. We retain a record of your original consent, and any withdrawal, for 3 years, so that we can demonstrate compliance if required.
8. How we protect your information
We apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access, or misuse, in line with section 19 of POPIA.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Be told that your personal information is being collected
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Object to our processing of your personal information
- Withdraw your consent at any time, without penalty
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
To withdraw your consent or exercise any of these rights, reply STOP to any WhatsApp message from us, email info@newworld.co.za, or speak to a manager in the New World store.

11. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The current version is always available at newworld.co.za/privacy. If we make a material change, we will notify you via WhatsApp before it takes effect.
